Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience designing, analyzing, and troubleshooting distributed systems.
- Experience developing and automating networking products, technologies, software, and protocols, and writing networking automation.
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience managing live networks (e.g., working in ISP, managing customer networks), and testing networking products and deployment scenarios.
- Experience in design and implement LAB network matching production environment, tooling for config and debug of devices, and designing tests to verify interoperability between vendor gears.
- Knowledge of differences and considerations for each test phase (e.g., validity, verification, performance, reliability, usability, stress testing) and familiarity with common tests for each of the major phases of software development.
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills, and a sense of ownership and drive.

As a Networking Test Engineer you make sure that our massive and growing network is operating at its peak potential. You have hands-on experience with complex networking equipment, a deep understanding of networking protocols, test design and implementation chops and a background in IP network design. It’s your job to make sure Google’s cutting-edge technology can perform at scale.

Responsibilities
- Define and describe network problems, write documents to describe test plans and procedures, and execute and publish results of test plans or process documentation for Google-wide use.
- Establish timelines and project plans for simple features and see them through completion.
- Review test plans with the team and participate in cross-functional reviews with related teams which cover test plans and test results.
- Write and automate test plans for network and software, and identify and gather requirements to execute tests for several features of moderate to high-complexity projects (e.g., border gateway protocol testing, link aggregation control protocol testing, quality of service testing) with minimal guidance.
- Produce and participate in network test design, with minimal guidance or in collaboration with other engineers.
